There are carolers, snowflakes, and street vendors selling hot apple cider along the walkways of the famous Whiskey Row. The annual "Courthouse Lighting" which has been a tradition for the last 46 years pulls visitors from all over the state. The display of lights is one of the major reasons for the towns Christmas spirit reputation. Another reason is the Hassayampa Inn with it's boughs of holly, holiday music, pine-scented wreaths, and the ghost named Faith. christmas celebrations

The Hassayampa Inn first opened its doors in November of 1927. When you first walk into the 67 room hotel you can not help but notice the gorgeous hand stenciled, wood beam ceilings, its Chinese-red hand operated elevator and its elegant and spectacular Southwest designed lobby. You will also be drawn to the French doors, cozy fireplace and transom windows. Upstairs the rooms are quaint, cozy and furnished with the hotel's original Castilian oak furniture. And you can not forget about the resident ghost, Faith. Just married, Faith and her husband checked into the Inn in 1927 to celebrate their honeymoon. At some point during their stay her husband left to go get a pack of cigarettes and never returned. After Faith waited for his return for a few days she lost hope and hung herself in the honeymoon suite. christmas eve

There have been many sightings of Faith since then. She has been seen crying at the foot of the bed dressed in a light pink nightgown as well as in the hall and disappearing into various rooms. The hotel kitchen tends to be one of her more favorite hang-outs with many staff feeling her presence among them. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the hotels Peacock Room. The room is beautiful with its art deco etched glass and mahogany wainscoting. One of the best experiences in the spectacular room is definitely breakfast. Next door to the dining room is the Hassayampa Bar & Grill. There is live music on Saturday nights with Prescott's famous Whiskey Row right down the street on Main. The Hassayampa Inn is located at 122 East Gurley Street. Their telephone number is 1-800-322-1927. christmas party menu

Right across the street is the square which offers tons of shopping opportunities. You can sip on hot apple cider, join the carolers in "O Silent Night" and marvel at the light displays. The annual holiday events include the World's Largest Gingerbread Village at the Prescott Resort. The Inn is a block off of the town square on Gurley.

Tips for buying Christmas gifts online

You don't have to be a last minute shopper to take advantage of the opportunity to do your Christmas shopping on the Internet. The world of shopping has been totally revolutionized thanks to the Internet, and for those people who prefer not to brave the crowded stores and Christmas shopping madness at the malls, the opportunity to do their holiday shopping online undoubtedly brings a big smile to their faces.

Admittedly, shopping online is convenient, and it can be incredibly easy, but it can also result in overspending, and if you're not careful, what your recipient gets may not be what you thought you had ordered. Here are some tips to help make your online Christmas shopping experience more pleasant, less frenetic and more cost effective. when

*Be aware of deadlines -

Most online retailers will advise you of the last date on which you can make a purchase and expect your package to arrive at the recipient, if you're having it shipped directly to the recipient. Pay attention to these dates, or you may find yourself paying outrageous sums to have your package shipped next day air or overnight. christmas silk flowers

*Start with a budget -

Shopping online can be fun, especially when you don't have to worry about finding a parking space or braving the crowds. When you're relaxed in the comfort of your own home, sipping a glass of wine, drinking your morning coffee or just chilling out, it's easy to get caught up in all of the wonder of what you see online. That is when it's easiest to lose track of the budget. Decide how much you're willing to spend on each recipient for whom you intend to shop online. Don't forget to add in the cost of gift wrapping and shipping.

*Shop around -

Don't get impatient and just buy the item you set out to buy from the first retailer whose name pops up when you do a Google search. Take the time to compare prices, find out what sort of satisfaction rating a seller has and what their return policy is. You don't want to jump into purchasing something from some retailer, only to find out that because you weren't paying attention to the terms of sale or any other things to which you must agree, that your recipient will be stuck with something they don't like or can't use. christmas candles

*Check out outlets -

Some stores have outlets online. If you shop at these places, you can get some incredible deals. You may also find that you can buy something that is a lot better in quality or that you can get high end products for as much or less than what you'd pay at regular retail prices for a lesser quality product elsewhere. Places like Land's End have great products at their overstock site, and the prices are phenomenal. If you're looking for designer clothing or other high end items at rock bottom prices, check out My Simon. You can compare prices on everything from vacuum cleaners to Jimmy Choo shoes and more. If you're at a loss as to what to buy for someone, take advantage of the suggestions on My Simon. You can find gifts for anyone, including suggestions as to gifts for under $50.

*Watch for sales and deals -

Watch for sales and deals. Sometimes you can find fabulous deals, but you have to weigh how good a deal it really is, especially if you're going to have to pay for shipping. Check out places like Amazon.com because their prices are always competitive, and you can check out different sellers who sell on Amazon. If you buy from Amazon and spend at least $25, you'll qualify for free shipping. Zappos is another great place because they have very competitive prices, offer free shipping and have an outstanding return policy.

*Know what the return policy is -

Don't buy from retailers who aren't explicit about their return policy. If you're uncertain, and if they don't offer any type of guarantee, chances are, they're not going to be very helpful should you want to return a purchase. The best bet is to stay away from these retailers.

*Be careful of eBay -

EBay can be very tempting for people because of the potential to get great deals. If you are looking at an item for which you've got to bid, you may wind up spending way more than you would have spent had you taken the time to look around. Pay attention to the shipping charges that eBay vendors charge.

These sellers often inflate their shipping prices to compensate for the low prices they put on their merchandise. In the end, you may not wind up getting such a great deal after all. Also be sure you know what kind of return policy the seller has, and what their approval rating is.

Shopping online can take the drudgery out of Christmas shopping. It can also make for a much more relaxing and stress free shopping experience. Be sure to take the time to find out what it is you are actually getting, because pictures can be a whole lot different than the actual item. Also take the time to find out when the shipping deadlines are, what the shipping methods are and what the shipping costs are. All in all, shopping online can be the ideal way to get gifts that you most likely might not have been able to get otherwise. Enjoy the experience for what it is!

Christmas 2010 gifts for children

When Christmas comes around this year, many are going to have to be frugal with their spending. The following are some inexpensive gifts you can consider for your children.

Value DVD

You will find a wide range of value kids’ DVDs for approximately $5 at discount sources such as Target and online at websites like Amazon. You will even find cheaper offerings at times. For instance, some stores sell $2 DVDs on Black Friday. At that price, you could even get a few DVDs and have a frugal gift. They offer DVDs in this price range for all different ages and preferences of children. christmas gifts

Books

There are many books that are very reasonable, and this can make a nice gift for a child. You can buy a paperbook fiction book from an author that you know your child loves. Also, stores such as Borders have an extensive “bargain book” section. In addition to fiction books, you will find many activity kits that make great books. They have puzzle books, brainteaser books, sticker books and craft books. These can also be educational. Many of them cost less than $10. You can also include other inexpensive items like a bookmark. christmas ornaments

Shopping spree at the dollar store

Many kids would like to choose out their own gifts. If you do not have a lot of money to give, however, you might worry that it will not go far. It can at the dollar store, however. For instance, you can take your child to the dollar store and say that he or she can pick out ten items. That will seem like a lot to your child but it will only set you back $10. This might be fun for them to go down the aisles and be able to pick out so many things. Alternatively, you could go yourself and make a gift basket of items from the store. They have a lot for $10 including little toys, hair accessories, coloring books and more. christmas flower arrangements

T-shirt

If the child likes clothing (and not all do) then you can get him or her a nice graphic t-shirt. These can often be purchased for under$10 at many sources. For instance, if it is a girl and she likes the Disney princesses, then you can get her a princess shirt. These often go on sale for $5. You can get a boy a superhero t-shirt from a source such as Target. Try to pick a character you know that he or she likes. You could also get a nice baseball cap instead.

If you are on a tight budget for the 2010 Christmas season, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get your child something special. Consider the above ideas when selecting your gifts.

Christmas Gift Ideas - Stocking stuffers for $10 or under

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year filled with joy and childhood memories. You may have already bought a lot of gifts to pile up under the Christmas tree. Or you may insist that traditionally the stocking stuffers are the only gifts received from Santa. In any case stocking stuffers are the perfect way to share love and a holiday cheer. Here is a list of stocking fillers ideas for $10 or under.

christmas tree lights

Lottery

As inexpensive as one dollar a pop, lottery is wonderful choice for a stocking stuffer – it gives receiver a hope, a tingling anticipation of being a potential prize winner. Check your local lottery retailer, they are probably offering holiday themed lotteries; some are actually called “Stocking stuffers”.

Golden coins

Chocolate coins, wrapped in a golden foil are perfect gift for all ages. Kids and adults alike seem exited, pretending to be fearless pirates holding a handful of shiny treasures. Plus, don’t forget, once they are ran out of steam with their imagination – chocolate inside will sweeten the deal.

Sponge Bob Jelly Pops

Jelly pops are delicious chewy fruit flavored candies shaped in variety of popular cartoon characters. Being a candy with a character they are a great choice for a stuffing gift. You can find Jelly Pops in most groceries stores. Selection often ranges from Rudolf to Santa.

christmas holidays

Puzzle toy

Expensive toys do impress modern kids but the impression and interest does not last very long. Puzzle toys (also known as brain teaser and mind twisters), on another hand, root to the children’s natural curiosity and competitiveness – “I solved it, see if you can”. Stop by your local “Dollar Store” and you will find various Chinese wooden and wire puzzles. They are small, inexpensive and entertaining – perfect stocking stuffers.

Bandless Earmuffs

Depending on your weather condition around Christmas, ear muffs could be a very welcomed gift. If that is not the case - consider a pair of flip-flops. A fruit lip gloss or travel size sun block will be a good addition to the appropriate gift.

DVD/CD

A new movie DVD or a hot compact disk may be a bit pricey, in that case opt out for a classic Christmas movie or melodies collection. Romantic and relaxation music albums are also popular stocking stuffers.

Fandango Movie gift certificate

If you are not sure which DVD to give as a present leave the choice to the receiver – give a movie gift certificate. It is not as impersonal as a regular gift card, on contrary, it says “I know you are a movie lover, here are the tickets for you - go and see the latest blockbuster”

Godiva chocolate

Chocolate candies of a popular brand will please even a sophisticated receiver, as for kids they will be happy to find any chocolate bar or cookies in their stockings.

How to celebrate a non-traditional Thanksgiving

For many reasons, perfect traditional Thanksgiving celebrations aren't always possible. Sometimes loved ones have moved away and can't return for the holiday. Sometimes petty disagreements keep family members from being close. Maybe you have suffered a loss of a loved one and would rather not celebrate this year or maybe your new job has relocated you far away from family and friends and except for the goldfish, you are totally alone in this world.

Christmas Cake Decoration Ideas

Perhaps it's not people that are the problem but the menu. You might have just committed to vegetarianism and the thought of a twenty pound turkey sitting on the table is enough to make you break out in a sweat. Maybe your family has moaned one too many times, "We don't like turkey. Why do we have to eat turkey when we don't like it?" Or maybe you are struggling to lose weight and need to find a non traditional way to cook traditional Thanksgiving dishes. Not everyone is blessed with a large loving family, but everyone is able to invite a friend, co-worker, or neighbor to Thanksgiving dinner. Cooking for guests can be fun and rewarding as you are not only pleasing yourself you are giving happiness to your guests who might otherwise do nothing special for the holiday.

Christmas Celebrations 2010 Gifts, Decorations, Music

Don't like to cook? Pick up Thanksgiving dinner the day before at your local supermarket and just heat it up before your guests arrive. Prepared turkey dinners are quite good and usually all you need to buy is some wine or soft drinks; everything else comes with your order including dinner rolls. If you don't have anyone to enjoy the day with and don't want to invite anyone to your home, think about helping out at your local shelter or soup kitchen. Acts of kindness always fill hearts with happiness and you can end up spending the day feeling lucky rather than sad about being alone.

christmas cruises

Menu problems are another story. The vegetarians in the family should be honored with meatless foods they can enjoy. If possible you can ask them to bring their own favorite dishes so that they enjoy their Thanksgiving meal and you can learn what to make for them another time. Vegans need even more care as their diets are stricter than average vegetarians. There is no shame in asking them to bring a dish of the food they enjoy for the same reason. When a whole family is dieting, keep the menu as low fat and low cal as you can. If only Aunt Martha is dieting, she can pick and choose from the numerous dishes what and how much she wants to eat. A great turkey dinner that will keep you slim is a sauteed turkey cutlet with mushrooms and walnuts, drizzled with a light sherry glaze, oven roasted Brussels sprouts, baked sweet potatoes, steamed green beans, rice stuffing and cranberry orange relish. Delicious, yet low in calories.

An even more nontraditional menu is to scrap the turkey and cook something your family likes better. Filet mignon, spaghetti and meatballs or even a roast chicken are great foods to serve family or friends and you can always have cranberry nut muffins to keep a bit of tradition in your nontraditional meal. Make Thanksgiving Day a special day by celebrating it exactly the way you want. If it's with family and friends fine, but if this year you want to take a vacation to the islands, that's okay too. Whatever you eat, and however you celebrate the day, take a minute out to say thanks because after all, that is what the day is about - not the menu; not even the guests.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!

Where to buy a Christmas tree in Holland

Needing a break from my studies recently, I went into Rotterdam city centre in search of a Christmas tree. Christmas tree acquisitions are nothing new to me, growing up we got the family Christmas tree in different ways, sometimes from a tree lot and sometimes by cutting our own tree at a Christmas tree farm; then there was the year that Ashley and I went into the woods to get a genuine free-range tree (resulting in something reminiscent of the Griswald’s tree from Christmas Vacation).

Christmas Gift Ideas for Pregnant Women

As experienced as I was, this was my first time buying a tree outside of Canada and I really didn’t know how that was going to work. Cutting down a tree was obviously out of the question, which left the option of buying a tree. I had seen a few small trees for sale at the city centre recently and decided to check them out. My thought was to get a little, apartment-sized tree that would be easy to transport and decorate.

When I got to the spot where they were selling trees, everything changed. My eyes scanned across all the trees, most of which were less than 5 feet tall, and fixed themselves on the lone, full sized tree; I knew that that was the tree I had to have. This is a bad habit I have, I always want the largest tree I can find. The problem, you see, is that a tree always looks much smaller outdoors than when it has a ceiling above it. Role of Clowns in Christmas Parties This tree was nothing like the 14′ tree I tried to fit in Ashley’s parents’ house (with 10′ ceilings), this was a reasonable sized tree. I was careful to estimate it’s height; being about a foot taller than the average Dutchman I figured it could easily fit in our apartment. I didn’t care that it was not a very full tree (at home it might even be called a Charlie Brown Christmas tree), but it was a full sized tree and that’s what I wanted.

I was paid for the tree and the woman handed it to me, everything was taken care of. I just needed to get it home. I headed for the metro with a seven foot fir over my shoulder. It was rush hour, which was probably not the best time to transport a tree by public transit, but the task was surprisingly easy (with the small exception of squeezing the tree through the metro door). Even still, I’m not sure if this was an odd thing to do. I felt odd, but no one seemed to find it strange. The only people who paid any notice at all were to young girls outside my apartment who stared in awe, one of them slowly saying, “een boom” (a tree in Dutch) as though there was something fascinating.

The tree is in our apartment now (it fits with plenty of room) and it has been decorated well enough to sufficiently hide is Charlie Brown qualities. Transporting a tree by metro can now be added to the growing list of ways I have acquired Christmas trees.

How to Ensure that Christmas Gifts can be Exchanged or Returned

At the end of Christmas, when all is said and done, the one thing we realize that we may have neglected to do is make sure that the gifts we purchased can be exchanged or returned. Although Christmas shoppers try hard to please, there is always the possibility that something we purchased is the wrong size or not to someone's taste. In order to make Christmas a more pleasant experience for both the gift giver and the recipient, knowing what to do or how to go about making sure that gifts are returnable or exchangeable will make the entire shopping experience much more enjoyable.

christmas decorations

Here are some things to consider when purchasing Christmas gifts so that you can rest assured that your gifts can be exchanged or returned.

*Beware of sales -

Deeply discounted sale merchandise is frequently sold as is, meaning you cannot return or exchange it. Unless you are absolutely certain that the person for whom you are buying something will like and want it, beware of the potential non-return policy.

*Going out of business sales -

If you buy things at a going out of business sale, unless you are buying merchandise that may have a manufacturers warranty, you may find that because the store is going out of business, that they won't be willing to repair the product, return it to the manufacturer or refund your money.

*Satisfaction guarantees and product warranties -

If you a product for which there is a "satisfaction guaranteed" clause of some type of "product warranty," make sure that you read the fine print so that you know what any disclaimer or exception might be. It's generally a good idea to operate under the assumption that anything that sounds too good to be true probably is.

Christmas Parties

*Shop at national chains -

If you are purchasing a gift for someone who lives in another city or state, it would be wise to purchase a gift from a place that has multiple stores, and one that is within a reasonable distance to where the recipient lives. National chains usually have a return policy that allows a person to exchange or return a gift within a certain amount of time. The length of time may vary, but the typical is 30 to 60 days.

*Enclose a gift receipt in the box -

When you purchase a gift from a store, regardless of whether you intend to have the gift sent or take it yourself, ask the sales clerk to put a gift receipt in the box. They will typically tape the gift receipt to the lid so that the recipient sees it as soon as they open the box. The gift receipt should have all of the essential information about the product return on it.

*Be clear about Internet returns -

Some Internet retailers are excellent about exchanges and returns. Other stores may have a return policy, but the manner in which they execute that policy leaves a lot to be desired. These businesses make the return process difficult and unpleasant and leave potential future shoppers feeling certain that they don't want to do business there.

Christmas Gifts

Good companies include Amazon.com (and they will replace lost merchandise,) whose customer service representatives respond to communications very quickly and politely. Zappos is another excellent company. They have a return policy that allows a customer or gift recipient to return merchandise at the company's expense. They enclose a form for return authorization and a prepaid return shipping sticker.

Overstock.com is not so good about returns. Whereas other companies will send out replacement merchandise right away, Overstock requires that you return the merchandise before they will replace it.

You will have to go through a long process of communicating with customer service in order to get to the point where you can return the merchandise. Be aware that there is a no-return policy on a significant amount of Overstock's merchandise - principally electronics.

*Purchase gift certificates or gift cards -

One way by which to avoid having to worry about whether or not your gift will be liked or wanted is to purchase a gift card or gift certificate to a store near the recipient's home. You are able to control the amount of money you spend on a gift card or gift certificate. If you don't know what store the person for whom you are purchasing the gift would want to shop at, you can always purchase a Visa, Master Card or American Express gift card that works just like a prepaid credit or debit card.

By taking the time to ensure that the gifts you purchase can be returned or exchanged, or that the products have a suitable warranty, you can make the Christmas gift giving process much more pleasant for yourself and the people for whom you buy gifts. Don't assume that policies are as consumer-friendly as they used to be. Beware, too, of non-return policies on sale merchandise. Remember, if you don't want to have to worry about if or how well a gift is liked, you can always purchase a gift card.

What to do with broken Christmas Tree Lights

Once the Christmas tree was up, the lights were strung, everything seemed to be perfectly in place, the ornaments glistened as they hung and the star shone bright completing the tree decorating process. Each night there was a delightful tickle within as the tree lights were turned on, oops, until you notice that there was a string of lights that had a mind of its own. With a little bit of wiggling, the section of lights decided to jump back on, leaving a sense of satisfaction once again. Well night after night when the lights were switched on, that same section of lights became harder to properly adjust until one day you realized, that’s it, they’re busted. christmas carols Without trying anymore, after all Christmas was only a day away, you decided that there was no more time to waste on trying to maneuver the lights so they would shine brightly as the others do.

While un-decorating the tree shortly after Christmas, placing the ornaments in boxes and the lights on special reels, you almost tossed out the broken tree lights but stopping in your tracks as you had been enlightened with an idea! Oh, what a wonderful idea, thoughts wandered through your head as to how you could recycle those broken tree lights. A string of lights has quite a bit of individual bulbs on them, definitely enough to even experiment with should you come up with an idea to use these broken lights. Don’t allow your uncreative side to discourage you from trying, instead bring on a new attitude; what’s the worst that could happen? You wind up throwing them in the garbage as originally planned.

However if the wheels were already turning in your head, you may have already thought of making a really cool ball of lights (yes, one’s that don’ work) that will look very nice. Start with a Styrofoam ball; begin to wrap the string of lights around the ball. While wrapping the wire around the ball, insert T pins into the ball to secure the wire strand in place. Continue wrapping the ball with the lights until you are happy with the amount of light bulbs that are protruding all around the ball. christmas songs Now cut the wire with wire cutters securing the end down with a T pin or two. Fill in around the bulbs, concealing the overlapping wires with a grout mixture or even cover the ball except for the bulbs with glue submerging the whole ball into a bowl of fake snow. Gently press the snow against the glued areas. If a thicker coat is desired, apply more glue over the snow and submerge again.

Depending whether or not these will be used for hanging ornaments or not, the substance in which you cover the wires with will be the decider. Grout will make the ball heavy. If this is done make a set of 3 and place in a decorative bowl on the table for a decoration. However, if something lighter in weight is used such as the fake snow you can easily hang these gorgeous homemade ornaments from your tree next year!

Tips and Information about Christmas Cards

There are loads of uses for those cards in crafts which you can perform with your children. For example, why not recycle these by getting the kids to cut out all the nice pictures and create their own fun cards for special occasions. Many are on a Christmas theme, though if you cut out parts of the pictures can often be used to make new cards for other occasions.

Children love paper crafts, and as the cards cost you nothing at all, these can be stocked for making collages, and brought out when the kids are bored.

Scanning for future cards.

Every year, there are those special cards which give you an enormous amount of pleasure. Using a computer software program such as Microsoft Home Publishing, you can create your very own cards from your favorites. The manner in which to do this is to scan those pictures onto your computer, and personalize them with text, saving them in JPEG or other photo format. When opening up Microsoft Home Publishing, you simply chose the area of the program for making cards, and the kind of sized card you wish to create.

christmas card sayings

The nice thing about making them in this way is that you can change the photos, add different colors, backgrounds and extras to make those cards special. These are easy to print and the four fold cards fit into standard white envelopes.

Using for lists and notes.

Have you ever wondered where to jot down a note. Often the very basic things we need are right under our noses. Using cards cut into neat squares for making lists of taking telephone notes, the cards have a second life, and are certainly worth keeping. Shopping lists are easy to find, rather than writing these on paper, and the cards are idea for keeping little notes as reminders. Stick magnets on the back of them and they can be attached to the fridge door, so you are forever reminded of those all essential appointments and tasks.

Making calendars.

Often the illustrations on our cards are very nice, and making an advent or yearly calender from them really is simple. You can make a calendar very easily drawing up a grid of squares to represent the days of the month and then, at the top of your sheet of paper, use the card as an illustration. These can be outlined with a special felt tipped pen, to make them look neat, and then a hole punched in the top of the completed calendar to hang this on the wall.

christmas cards

Making gift tags for next year.

By far one of the most popular recycling tricks with greetings cards is to use them to create tags. Often the back of the pictures are not the area where people write, making them ideal. To do this, take a pair of pinking shears and cut out many tags from one card. These can be neatly stored away until next year, and be attached to parcels with a little colored string.

Composing your own cards.

Many cards can be cut up to make future cards. If you take the elements that you like from each card and store these, you can use them to create unique cards. Card-making supply stores have all kinds of different elements you can add to make your very own cards, using the pictures you cut out as the main theme of your home made cards.

Home preserve and candy labels.

Some cards are suitable to be used for labels. Here, think of all the special packaging you may do for the coming year. These can be used for labeling your jars. Add a nice gingham cover and you have a unique presentation. They are particularly good for those home made preserves which would be offered as gifts, and this can include your home made chocolates, truffles and candies.

The humble Christmas card comes a long way before you receive it. Designed by artists, printed by factories, shipped out to far off places to be sold, bought by people you know, and sent on to you. With a little thought and a lot of imagination, you can indeed make their journey last a little longer, and give a lot more pleasure by recycling. Greetings don't have to end after the holidays, and can be made to represent new projects for the oncoming year.

Christmas Gifts for Teen Girls

Christmas has come again and you need a gift for your teen girl. What you should get her will depend on a variety of factors including her tastes, style, preferences and of course your budget. The following are some of the most popular Christmas gifts for teen girls.

MP3 player

Many teen girls would love a great MP3 player. Kids this age usually love to listen to music. They have many different types. The IPOD is a particularly popular one that many kids enjoy. Make sure you get one that would work for her. If you want to add a little to it, then you could get her a gift certificate for some music or get her a few CDs to go along with it.

Camera

A lot of teen girls love to take pictures of their friends. If she has an old camera, you might want to consider getting her a new digital camera. These can be a lot of fun. They make many different types and you do not necessarily need to spend an arm and a leg to get her something nice that would take decent pictures. christmas cookie recipes

Jewelry

If your teen girl likes jewelry, then this can make a nice Christmas gift. They make many different pieces for all different styles. Another nice thing about this gift is that you will find pieces for all different types of budgets. You can find a pretty yet inexpensive silver piece for under $20 or spend much more for something with gold and gemstones. You can also get something personalized with her name.

Smartphone

Many girls this age would love a smartphone. Of course, do not forget to include a calling plan unless she already has one or has the ability to pay for it. Many girls would love to be able to use their own phone wherever they go as well as the Internet. Just make sure that she is responsible with it. christmas tree ornaments

Clothing

Many teen girls just love clothing. Of course, you will find many different types, but you will want to be certain that you know both her style and tastes. You could also go with her and let her try on and pick out the items. Alternatively, you could give her a gift certificate to a clothing store so that she can go and pick out the items herself.

Ways to save money and get more out of Christmas

You can't fully enjoy the holiday when you are worrying about the money or if you are going in debt after wards. Think about homemade gifts this year. These can be anything from a knitted scarf, food item or a scrapbook or a personalized music CD. The key is to think of the person that you are giving to and what they like and dislike to make it special.

If you mail Christmas cards, consider sending email messages or writing a letter or poem to friends and family letting them know what you and your family have been up to.

Gift bags are very expensive so consider making your own and if you have kids, get them involved in decorating the bags. You can purchase packages of plain white bags or brown bags from the dollar store to embellish and personalize. christmas recipes

If you have an annual party or Christmas feast at your house, consider asking your guests to bring a dish so you're not having to spend as much on the food and drinks.

Think of gifts of service rather then material items. Maybe you have a family member or neighbor who can't get out on their own. Offer to help with the shopping or cleaning or even prepare a meal for them.

Offer babysitting coupons for friends and family who have young children. This will not cost anything but each coupon they use will be like giving the gift all over again.

Start Enjoying The Holiday For What It Is Meant To Be.

The Christmas holiday is meant to be a time of joy and of giving and sharing so start thinking of ways to incorporate these ideals into your celebration. Take your family to a shelter or soup kitchen and volunteer where there is a need. Call one of the nursing homes nearby and plan to help serve their holiday dinner. Get a group together and go caroling in the neighborhood.

Take drives around the area to enjoy the lights and decorations that people put up outside of their home.

Invite friends and family over for an open house and pot luck meal to just enjoy a time out for relaxing and visiting.

Make it a goal that this year will be the one that you stop focusing on spending money and buying gifts and instead look for ways to be of service and give the gift of time and friendship. You will make others happy and find yourself not only saving money but enjoying the holiday much more.

Tips for Christmas Celebrations

Budget Christmas All Year

When you make your regular budget hopefully it includes some type of savings to make life easier in an emergency. Including Christmas money in the budget is rarely thought about but it can go a long way toward keeping you within a budget for the amount of spending done at the end of the year. You can have the money put into a special account to draw interest and increase your funds or you can keep it in a special hiding place. The amount that you put aside will be based on the goals that you set for yourself.

Make A List

When you begin to budget for holiday spending you need to make a list. The list should not only include the people that you're planning to buy gifts for but decorations and the activities that you plan to participate in during the holiday. By making a list or lists of all these things you can start planning early by doing little things such as getting an idea of what you want to get everyone on your list. You will get different things for the people that you work with than you would for family members.

Christmas Sayings

Price Comparisons

When you begin to get an idea of what you want to buy during Christmas you can start to compare the prices. You can make it a point to check the prices during your regular shopping trips and start looking online. This will tell you the best place to find an amazing deal on what you what whether it's in a traditional store or on an online auctioning site.

Limit Yourself

When it comes to the budgeting of Christmas spending you have to limit yourself. While you might be tempted to go to every party or host every dinner you have to be realistic about what you can do. Pick the events and the people that are the closest to you and start from there. You are can attempt to spend the same amount on everyone but it's not always possible when you have small children on your list.

When it comes to budgeting the amount of spending that you do during Christmas you have to be prepared and realistic. Ideally you will be able to avoid credit cards during the holiday and opt for layaway if you have some more expensive items to purchase.

Christmas decorating ideas for a staircase

There are many ways to decorate your house for Christmas, and one area you might want to decorate is your staircase. There are many ways to do this, from bright and inexpensive ways to more pricey elegant options. The following are some Christmas decorating ideas for a staircase.

Use garland

One easy thing that you can do is wrap garland around the railing of the staircase. This is easy, relatively inexpensive and can be very pretty. You could also put various things on the garland in order to decorate it, which can give it very different looks depending on what you get. Some items include red silk flowers and different ornaments. Some garland comes with things already on them for convenience.

Use ornaments

One fun idea would be to use the same ornaments that are on your tree on your staircase. These can be very pretty. You can buy ornaments or you can make them. Many can probably be hung on the staircase railing.

christmas flowers

Have the children make crafts

One fun and inexpensive idea that works if you have children is to decorate the stairway with different crafts. They can use paper and whatever materials they want, including crayons, markers, glitter, sequins, crystals and more to decorate different items. There are many things that they can make. For instance, they can decorate little paper Christmas trees, wreathes, candy canes, reindeer or anything else. You can attach them with something like pipe cleaner, string or ribbons. One fun idea would be for them to make a scene of Santa flying up the stairs with his reindeer. Of course, Rudolph would be up front.

Christmas Flower Arrangements

Christmas lights

There is nothing to say that Christmas lights must be used outside and cannot be used inside. This can make a very nice decoration and you will have your choice of the different types. They have colorful ones, ones that look like icicles hanging down, twinkling ones and many more different types.

Create a winter wonderland with chiffon or cotton

If you want your house to look like a winter wonderland then you can use chiffon to drape up and down your staircase railing. You can out ornaments that look like icicles. You can also use cotton to make it look like snow. This can be very pretty.

great christmas gift ideas

If you have children of your own, your mother will be delighted to receive family pictures. One thing to consider getting is a frame that can hold multiple pictures. Put a picture of each child in one of the spaces. If there are extra spaces, put a picture of you and your spouse or a picture of the entire family.

*A family photo album -

Consider getting a nice scrap book or photo album and assembling a range of family pictures. Choose the type of album that will allow you to add pages. Include pictures of each member of the family, pictures from family trips, outings, or special occasions. Tell your mother that since you can add pages, you'll be adding to the photo album by sending her additional pictures so she can get a real glimpse into your family's life when she can't be present.

christmas eve party

*Manicure and pedicure-

If your mother doesn't get the opportunity to pamper herself, you can provide the means by which she can get some pampering. Give her a gift certificate for a manicure and a pedicure. She will be delighted with the special treatment and will be truly appreciative of your thoughtfulness.

*A day at the spa -

Consider giving your mother a gift certificate for a day at the spa. While she is there, she can enjoy a massage, a facial, a manicure and a pedicure and whatever else there is to enjoy. Many spas offer restful gourmet lunches for their clients as they provide champagne or other luxury beverages. Your mother will feel refreshed and rewarded and she will be humbled by your thoughtfulness.

*Books -

If your mother is an avid reader, consider getting her a fabulous book. Look for something you know she won't have read and she'll be anxious to read it and grateful to you for giving it to her. If she loves to cook, consider getting her a fabulous cookbook. Alice Waters has many spectacular cookbooks with beautiful illustrations, Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child is one of the classic French cookbooks of all time.

*A magazine subscription -

Consider a magazine subscription for your mother. If she cooks, there are many outstanding magazines, including Food and Wine, Gourmet, Cooks and many others. Each issue will provide her with new recipes to try.

christmas party menus

*A bathrobe -

Most mothers would love to have a comfortable bathrobe. If you live in a place where the winters are very cold, a heavy cotton terry cloth or flannel robe would be wonderfully warm and cozy. If you live in a warmer climate, you can look for a lightweight robe. Silk cotton kimono type robes are not only beautiful but comfortable and lightweight. Silk is an ideal fabric because it holds in warmth and breathes.

*Bath products -

If your mother loves to take baths, consider giving her some all natural aromatherapy bath products. You can assemble a basket with body wash, bath oil, body lotion, body spray, candles, a body puff and a bath pillow. You can buy bath products that are already assembled in gift baskets, or you can put a basket together on your own.

*Handmade items -

If you sew, consider making your mother a very special quilt for her bed. If you crochet, crochet a shall, a lap rug or an afghan for her. If you knit, consider knitting socks, a sweater, a scarf, a shall or anything else you think she could use. You could also make her hand made pot holders with matching towels, hot pads or anything else.

*A vacation -

If you don't live in the same city or state that your mother lives in, consider giving her a vacation where she can come and spend some time with you and your family. Plan to have her come and spend a week or however long feels good to you. It will give her a chance to spend some quality time with you and a chance to spend time with her grandchildren. Find out what it will take to bring her to your place. This will likely be the most precious gift you could possibly give her.

When looking for gifts for your mother, think of things that will be meaningful to her. As people age, they don't like to accumulate stuff. They know the more possessions they have, the more difficult it becomes for survivors.
