Christmas Destinations Prescott and Arizona

Prescott has been designated as Arizona's official "Christmas city". There are carolers, snowflakes, and street vendors selling hot apple cider along the walkways of the famous Whiskey Row. The annual "Courthouse Lighting" which has been a tradition for the last 46 years pulls visitors from all over the state. The display of lights is one of the major reasons for the towns Christmas spirit reputation. Another reason is the Hassayampa Inn with it's boughs of holly, holiday music, pine-scented wreaths, and the ghost named Faith. christmas celebrations

The Hassayampa Inn first opened its doors in November of 1927. When you first walk into the 67 room hotel you can not help but notice the gorgeous hand stenciled, wood beam ceilings, its Chinese-red hand operated elevator and its elegant and spectacular Southwest designed lobby. You will also be drawn to the French doors, cozy fireplace and transom windows. Upstairs the rooms are quaint, cozy and furnished with the hotel's original Castilian oak furniture. And you can not forget about the resident ghost, Faith. Just married, Faith and her husband checked into the Inn in 1927 to celebrate their honeymoon. At some point during their stay her husband left to go get a pack of cigarettes and never returned. After Faith waited for his return for a few days she lost hope and hung herself in the honeymoon suite. christmas eve

There have been many sightings of Faith since then. She has been seen crying at the foot of the bed dressed in a light pink nightgown as well as in the hall and disappearing into various rooms. The hotel kitchen tends to be one of her more favorite hang-outs with many staff feeling her presence among them. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the hotels Peacock Room. The room is beautiful with its art deco etched glass and mahogany wainscoting. One of the best experiences in the spectacular room is definitely breakfast. Next door to the dining room is the Hassayampa Bar & Grill. There is live music on Saturday nights with Prescott's famous Whiskey Row right down the street on Main. The Hassayampa Inn is located at 122 East Gurley Street. Their telephone number is 1-800-322-1927. christmas party menu
